The Mira Costa varsity tennis team took on local opponents in the Bay League doubles matches on Oct. 25. This single elimination tournament was held at The Kramer Club in Palos Verdes.

Partners senior Carly McGuire and sophomore Mai Nojima won 9-8 in their first round but lost, 6-2 in the second round. Seniors Susana Sieke and Lauren Watts lost in their first round 8-0. Seniors Juliana Hoft and Alex Waller also lost 8-3 in their first round. Junior Sidney Ascher and doubles partner, senior Sulibeth Ortiz-Torres won 8-4 but then lost in their second round 6-2 and 6-1.

“Mai and I played really well together in the first round but we had some issues with putting the ball away when we played the top two players in the tournament,” McGuire said. “We really had nothing to lose so we gave it our all and gave them a challenge in the end.”

The girls will play again in the first round of CIFs, which starts on Wednesday, Oct. 31.
