Even with its roots stemming from Northern Ireland, Two Door Cinema Club has been able to easily mesmerize its fans across the Atlantic.

Two Door Cinema Club’s performance at the Greek Theatre on Nov. 2 as a part of its Beacon World Tour was exceptionally impressive with its use of visual effects, outstanding vocals and guitar measures. The concert’s diverse set list added to the band’s awe-inspiring performance.

Formed in 2007, the band consists of lead singer and guitarist Alex Trimble, second guitarist Sam Halliday and bassist Kevin Baird – the latter two also acting as back-up vocalists.

Two Door Cinema Club has been on tour since 2012 to promote its alternative album “Beacon.” Bands St. Lucia and Capital Cities opened for Two Door’s performance at the Greek Theater.

One of the most unique parts of Two Door’s performance was its timely use of intense visuals in correspondence with the beats of the songs. Although many artists use lighting to enhance live performances, the group’s use was unique in its surreality and synchronization with the music.

Additionally, lead singer Trimble’s distinct voice echoed throughout the entire theatre, leaving a lasting impact after each and every song. His emphasis on phrases like “I’m in love with you” in the song “Sun” helped make the show even more intimate by highlighting the most raw, stripped lyrics.

Halliday also impressed with his flawless guitar chords. Because many of the band’s songs contain various guitar riffs as defining elements, spot-on instrumentals are necessary for a successful performance. Halliday exceeded expectations, providing a sound that easily could have rivaled recorded counterparts.

The group’s unexpected setlist was also a strong point in the performance. Opening with “Sleep Alone” and ending with “What You Know” was a strategic choice that engrossed the crowd at the start of the show and allowed it to close with the same zeal. Both songs share immense popularity and emotion.

The set list also enabled the concert to proceed smoothly. In one instance, the emotionally moving “Next Year” put the crowd in a sentimental mood, which was immediately complemented by “Something Good Can Work,” consisting of upbeat measures and lyrics. This effortless transition kept the crowd fervent, making the performace all the more entertaining.

Overall, Two Door’s performance was exceptional with its unique setting, fluid vocals and flawless instrumentals. Its incredibly smooth transitions and creative set list added to the concert’s perfection.

Two Door Cinema Club will continue its Beacon tour throughout the United States for the next few months.
