Que the guitar. With “The Acoustic Sessions,” an acoustic blend of songs by Cody Simpson, released on November 19, the sound really gives off an acoustic, home-recorded sound feeling as Simpson strips down to the basics.

Cody released his previous album “Surfer’s Paradise” this summer. “Surfer’s Paradise” debuted in the Top 10 on the Billboard 200 all-genre charts. “Acoustic Sessions” will be Simpson’s 5th album.

“The Acoustic Sessions” consists of 5 songs, including 3 from his past album “Surfer’s Paradise” : “La Da Dee,” “Wish You Were Here,” and “Pretty Brown Eyes,” 1 from his “4 U” EP: All Day, and a Christmas song: “Please Come Home For Christmas.”

“La Da Dee” starts off slow with the guitar, opposed to the regular version which is more upbeat. The song slowly digresses with the guitar and later adds a beat in the background.

“Wish You Were Here” is more simple than the original version. It stays simple with just drums, a guitar, and Cody’s voice–joined by his background singers, while the original version had more of a techno-beat.

“Pretty Brown Eyes” took a slower route than it’s original version and stayed basic with a guitar.

“All Day” began with just drums and adds in a guitar. The acoustic sound of the song is fresh. The song stays upbeat yet more slow and acoustic sounding than the original song.

“Please Come Home for Christmas” is a bonus addition to the album. It is perfect in time for the holidays and gives off that beachy holiday feeling.

Overall, the sound produced in Simpson’s new EP gives off a nice, soft, and beachy feeling. The acoustics were very well done and puts out a nice “home-recorded” sound. It really connects you to Cody’s voice. Support Cody’s new album and come to his LA concert at the El Rey Theatre next January.

“The Acoustic Sessions” is now available digitally and in retail.
