A year of growth bodes well for future of La Vista staff

Editors-in-Chief

A single room, filled with over a hundred clashing personalities, in which a unified product exits its doors every month seems unfeasible, but that is what La Vista is.
With only one year of editing experience under each of our belts, taking on the task of editors-in-chief this year was intimidating; but we accepted the challenge, knowing that our previous leaders had prepared us well.

With the rest of the paper also made up of fairly under-experienced writers, we made a concerted effort to make this year one of growth and progress. We have developed our writing and editing skills, and, with the help of our staff, we have discovered what it takes to be a leader.

We hope that each staff member is able look back on this year and see that he or she has grown as well, as we know they have.

At first, the overhaul of last year’s editorial board was a bit frightening. The idea of having to start from scratch was a daunting mission. We could not be more proud of our staff’s progress; every staff member, from photographers to writers, has demonstrated a desire to improve and grow as journalists, qualities that were vital to LV’s success.

This dedication was highlighted by a series of newsworthy events, such as the disbandment of Ed Council and the misallocation of district funds. We are proud of our writers’ determination to report all sides fairly while forming opinions without bias.

Even amidst distractions, La Vista moved forward, literally. Moving into a white-walled warehouse and losing our beloved couches left us homesick. Yet, our first 28-page paper of the school year came out with an efficiency and quality unhindered by the new surroundings. Not only did the move demonstrate our staff’s incredible abilty to adapt to change, it made it clear that La Vista does not reside in a single room – it will always live within the spirit of those who create the paper.

La Vista is unique in the way that it builds writers’ confidence through the underratedly vulnerable act of printing their thoughts to be shared, and this quality will continue to attact La Vistites. We could not have more confidence in next year’s staff. Returning members have emerged out of their previously novice status, ready to continue the blend of work and fun that is LV. There are only great things to come.
