After losing their last game 7-2, the Mira Costa baseball team’s season came to an abrupt end. The Mustangs did not qualify for California Interscholastic Federation due to their 10-21-0 record.

Although the Mustangs did not make CIF, they dominated in games. They came out strong against Leuzinger and defeated them 21-0 in five innings. Sophomore catcher, Brett Davis, contributed with a hit and a run scored in the Mustangs dominating win.

“The team played great against Leuzinger and we needed a win like this to get back on track,” Davis said. “This is what we needed to play like for the rest of the year.”

The Mustangs faced their rivals, Redondo Union High School, in their third and fourth to last games. The Mustangs came up short both times losing 3-9 and then losing 1-5. Sophomore shortstop, Will Proctor, contributed one hit and also walked to get a base.

“We needed to start off better and play consistently throughout the game,” Proctor said. “We could have played better and it makes it that much worse that it was against our rival school.”

The Mustangs last game of the season was played at Costa against Palos Verdes. The Mustangs started slow and could not catch up with PV, then losing 7-2. Senior right fielder, Ryan Corral, went three for two scoring one run and also managing to get walk.

“It was an amazing feeling to spend my last game of my high school career playing with my senior class,” Corral said. “It was a very special game even though we did not get the win. I got to play with my friends and that is all that I needed.”

The Mustangs finished off the season with a 10-21-0 final record.

“It was a very fun year even though we did not finish like we wanted to,” Proctor said. “We could have done better but we will improve next year.”
