Mira Costa High School Model United Nations will attend the Edison Advanced Conference at Edison High School tomorrow and Sunday after a successful conference on Oct. 4 at Cerritos High School.
At the Cerritos conference, 53 out of the 56 Mira Costa MUN students received an Award of Excellence, an honor that recognizes the highest-achieving students in each committee.

“I put a lot of hard work into my preparation for Cerritos, and it really paid off as I felt more prepared than most of the other delegates,” freshman Karen Pan said.
Select freshman, sophomores, juniors and seniors will attend the Edison conference tomorrow and Sunday, Costa’s first major debate of the school year.

“I hope we do well because our talent is capable of it,” MUN advisor Bob Timberlake said. “If we don’t, it’s because people aren’t prepared or are not taking the conference seriously.”

To better prepare students for the debate, in-class “roasts” took place from Oct. 6 through today. During this time, teachers and students quizzed Edison delegates about their committee’s topic, their policies and their solutions.

“The roasts are terrifying, but they definitely help prepare us for Edison,” sophomore Melia Chittenden said “The roasts allow our advisors and other classmates to make sure we know our topic backwards and forwards.”
