Lighting Struck Forensic Scientist turned speedster superhero. “The Flash” is an action packed crime show where Barry Allen must use his newly gained powers to fight crime in Central City while still working as scientist for the Central City Police Department.

The show features many great actors that help keep every episode interesting with each character having an interesting story to tell. Each episode has in great writing which is enough to want to keep watching and the plot has evolved to an intricate masterpiece of great quality.

As a kid his mother was killed by an unknown attacker and his father was blamed for the murder and is sent away to prison. Barry is then sent to live with Joe West a central city police officer played by Jesse L. Martin and his daughter Iris West who is played by Candice Patton.

He is helped by Harrison Wells Owner of star labs(Tom Cavanagh), Cisco Ramon a mechanical engineer for star labs(Carlos Valdes), and Dr. CAitlin SNow a bioengineering expert(Danielle Panabaker). With the explosion there are many people who are affected by the explosion and are called Metahumans that Barry eventually must fight to save his city.

The shows writing is great with each episode introducing new details about each character and their backstories. Many of the episodes focus on expanding a single character’s background and the writers do this perfectly with providing just enough background information to get invested in the characters

The show starts off with a very basic plot of Barry wanting to find out who murdered his mother and wanting to free his dad from prison for a crime he believes he did not commit. As the season moves on Barry finds out more of who truly killed his mother and must make many hard decisions if he wants to continue his quest of freeing his father.

The show while serious in nature still has room for comedy mainly stemming from the character Cisco. Cisco takes the job of naming all the Metahumans Barry must fight coming up with names like Captain Cold and Peek a Boo. Cisco is also used as comic relief in many episodes with a darker tone.

One of the shows downfalls is that Barry is forced into a boring love triangle with Iris and her boyfriend Eddie Thawne (Rick Cosnett) who is also Joe’s partner in the CCPD. The writer’s force them into many awkward situations that draw viewers out of the show.

Another part of the show that can at times be boring is each episode has a very predictable plot. Every episode deals with Barry fighting a metahuman created by the explosion of the particle accelerator and having his powers expand to fight greater enemies.

“The Flash” is a great work and even though at times can be boring and repetitive it is worth it to take the time to watch it because of the great acting, writing , and the overall interesting take on the superhero genre. With the show still only in its first season there is still much to come with this cast of great characters.

“The Flash” can be watched from the chanel CW’s website and is on live every tuesday with the finale being aired on May 19. It is rated TV- PG
