Mira Costa’s girls golf team placed second in the Walnut Golf Tournament, one stroke from tying for first, on Monday at Chester Washington Golf Course.

They played against Santa Monica, Westchester, Palos Verdes, West Torrance and Redondo, who got first place. The leading scorer for the Mustangs was senior Marni Murez, who shot 76 and on a par 74 course.

“I am happy about our performance,” said Murez. “We did well in this tournament and I am proud of our results although we placed second.”

The Mustangs play in their next match on Wednesday in the Knabe Golf Tournament at Lakewood Golf Country Club. The Mustangs have a current overall record of 12-1 and a Bay League record of 2-0.

“I am excited to play in the Knabe,” said Murez. “I think if we play how we are practicing we will be able to get first place.”
