Costa’s Drama Department is opening its first fall play “Check Please,” tonight at 7:30 p.m. in the small theatre.

Tickets have been on sale since Oct 5th for $10 for students and senior citizens and $12 for adults in the Mustang Mall, room 1 or at the door prior to the show. “Check Please,” the first of the two fall plays is a comedy about relationships and the dates people go on with crazy people they meet.

“I like this play because it is a comedy and a contrast to the second play, “Picnic” Drama Teacher Carol Matthews said.”

The two main roles played in  “Check Please”out of the cast of 15 people are Girl, played by senior Molly Dvorkin, and Guy played by junior Connor Tree. Girl tries to find a long lasting relationship with a good guy as she has to encounter a series of blind dates.

“I am really lucky that I am able to able to play a part that is able to support all of the characters and is someone who the audience will be able to relate to,” Dvorkin said.

The cast has been going through extensive rehearsal processes since September 15. The technical crew is working on sets, lighting, costumes and props to make sure it is all ready for the opening of the show. The characters are dressed in modern day costumes with minimal makeup.

““Check Please” is definitely going to be popular because it relates to daily life,” Drama President Dana Beech said. “It is a change from how our fall shows usually are in the sense that they are short scenes with a lot of comedy.”

The play will have limited seating because it will be presented in the small theatre which contains only 290 seats. Because of the limited amount of space people need to purchase tickets for a specific show time.

“ I like using the small theatre opposed to the auditorium because we do not have to worry about microphones, and the setting will be more intimate and up close,” Matthews said.

“Check Please” will also be performed tomorrow at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. According to Dvorkin, the Drama Department expects a large audience turnout since this is one of the few shows they host throughout the year.

“I am really excited about “Check Please” because it is well written, a hilarious show, and I think everyone will enjoy watching it,” Dvorkin said. “ It is such a great experience and I am so grateful to be in it.”

The next play coming out is “Picnic”, which will be presented on November 6, 7, 13, and 14 at 7:30 p.m., and also it will be presented on November 12 at 6:30 p.m. and November 14 at 2 p.m.

“ I am having so much fun with my character, it is definitely a lot of responsibility, and there a lot of lines to be memorized, but the whole process is amazing, it doesn’t even feel like work,” Dvorkin said.
