Charlotte Sabina, a freshman at Mira Costa High School, pursues her singing passion by rocking the stage at the 26th annual pier lighting ceremony in Manhattan Beach, California.

Sabina says she enjoyed the experience of playing at the pier lighting due to the large size of the venue and the traditional background of the event that she played at on November 18, 2015.

“Performing at the pier lighting was insane!” Sabina said ,”It was like I was playing for more than hundreds of my closest friends,” Sabina said.

Sabina is a singer songwriter who already has opened for Jon Bon Jovi, and has her own extended play out on iTunes called “I Know Your Secret.” Sabina says her love and passion for music started at a young age when she was taught to play piano and guitar at the age of eight.

“The pier is as local as a gig can get,” Sabina said.” By far the best part was that so many of my friends were able to make it– it is tough for the people to come see my venues I usually play.”

Most of the gigs Sabina plays at are either small venues that can be a challenge to attend due to their size and location, or a larger event like the one that took place last month at the pier.

“I think I liked most part being part of a place and a tradition that the community cares about so much,” Sabina said. “I could feel it from sound check until after the show.”

The pier lighting ceremony was established in 1989 and is a traditional celebration where citizens of Manhattan Beach and the South Bay gather. It is a time where family, friends, and neighbors come together to celebrate the start of the Christmas season.

“I performed originals that I have not recorded yet as well as a few Christmas favorites and originals from my new EP “I Know Your Secret”,” Sabina said.

The singer helped the attendees get into the spirit of the Christmas season with popular Christmas songs. Sabina also performed a few of her original songs, as well as new ones that have not been released to the iTunes store yet.

“I have been talking to the city of Manhattan Beach about some long term plans for a large event,” Sabina said,” when they suggested to do the pier lighting I jumped at the opportunity.”

Sabina says she looks forward to booking more performances as her singing career progresses. All dates of future events will be posted on her Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.

“By the time I went on stage, the crowd was pumped and I just fed off that energy and I had the most fun I could have had,” Sabina said.
