The 4th season of the emmy-nominated show, “House of Cards” is the best season since its debut. In this season, the power hungry Underwood’s return and continue their ruthless, backstabbing journey to gain political power.

Season 4 is very well-produced, with expertly done acting accompanied by a wonderful soundtrack and extensive development of every major character. The highlight of the show has always been Frank and Claire Underwood’s unique relationship, and their relationship is more complex and intriguing than ever in this season.

The show picks up right where it left off, right after Frank and Claire’s biggest fight, and before a major campaign trip. To cover up the fact that Claire has left him, Frank says she is visiting her sick mother in Texas. It takes an assassination attempt on Frank, who is the current President Of the United States, to bring the two back together. Once reunited they become stronger and more formidable than ever before. The two then focus on winning the election and becoming the first husband and wife to become president and vice president.

The show mainly takes place in Washington D.C. much like the previous 3 seasons. Although some of this season takes place in Texas, and various states where Frank goes to campaign for the presidency.

One of the shows stronger points is the plot, which is very realistic and mirrors modern day politics. It has many twists and turns, like when Frank puts America into a war just to remain in power. The complexity of the story is just right and never gets too overwhelming

Another highlight of the show is the soundtrack, which adds suspense to the most intense scenes. The  intro song really sets the mood for the rest of the episode, creating tension and dissonance. The brilliant soundtrack produced by Jeff Beal helps emphasize the show’s most important moments.

While “House of Cards” mainly focuses on Frank and Claire’s relationship, the show does a fantastic job of developing all supporting characters by showing the audience different things going on in other characters lives. All major characters, have a background, and their own goals and political aspirations. By doing this, the show removes the chance of there being a dull character whether he or she is loved or hated.

Possibly the show’s strongest aspect is Frank and Claire’s relationship. Which has always been complex and becomes increasingly so in season four. It is really interesting how their relationship reaches its its lowest point and its strongest all in the same season. At their strongest though, they become less like husband and wife and more like business partners with the same end goal in mind which makes the show much more entertaining.

“House of Cards” is still the same cold-blooded, chaos-filled, political drama and is more entertaining than ever. It has an enticing plot, a suspenseful soundtrack, stellar character development and is driven by the Underwood’s dynamic, ever-changing relationship.

Season 4 of “House of Cards” was released March 4th, and can only be watched exclusively on Netflix.
