Mira Costa’s baseball team came away with a Boras Classic Tournament win against Junipero Serra High School, 2-1 at the Boras Classic tournament finals on Friday. A top performance from Starting pitcher senior Roland Houseman helped give the Mustangs the boost they needed to pull away with a win.

Houseman pitched six innings allowing only one earned run, four hits, and one walk while gaining five strikeouts. According to Houseman, he never thought about being able to pitch in such an important game and after seeing what he had accomplished, he felt honored.

“When Coach Olson told me I was getting the start, I was instantly beginning to feel fired up,” Houseman said. “I had a competitive mindset while I was on the mound the entire game and was confident in myself the entire game because I knew I had the obligation to pick up my team with a strong pitching performance.”

The Mustangs improve their overall record to 11-1 and continue their 11-game winning streak. The team next on Wednesday in a double header away matchup against El Segundo High School. According to Houseman the team has been very consistent recently.

“This team is very talented,” Houseman said. “We win because of our hearts that we leave on the field. If all of our minds are on the same boat, we should have no problem going forward.”
