Junior Shante Robinson represented Costa’s track and field team at the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) Southern Section Masters Meet on Friday May 27 at Cerritos College. Robinson competed in the 100m and 300m hurdles as well as the 4x400m relay with sophomores Alicia Chute and Jaylah Herron as well as senior Myan Elrington.

Robinson placed ninth in the 100m hurdles, fourth in the 300m hurdles and partook in the 4x400m relay which placed ninth as well. Robinson will continue onto state for the 300m hurdles but not for the 100m hurdles and 4x400m relay.

“For the 100m, the race was terrible. The starter was rushing me and I wasn’t ready. For the 300m, the race wasn’t great but it was good enough to get where I need to go which is state. If I finished stronger, then my placing would’ve been better but my start was very good.”

Robinson now advances on to State alongside fellow junior Melia Chittenden. The meet will take place on June 3 and 4 at Buchanan High School. According to Robinson, this season has been a roller coaster.

“Nothing was consistent,” Robinson said. “I had a minor injury and I’m really happy that I was able to bounce back in time for State.”
