The billion dollar question Bridget Jones faces: Who is the father of her child, a stern lawyer or a multi-faceted, romantic entrepreneur?

“Bridget Jones’s Baby”, directed by Sharon Maguire, delivered everything that can be asked for in a romantic comedy like the special moment where she sees the baby for the first time twice, once with each possible father. This long awaited sequel engages the viewer and keeps them laughing through every awkward moment.

The film revolves around Bridget Jones, a 43 year old single woman who is distressed about her loneliness. Exasperated, she decides to make a change and goes to a music festival with her best friend. She meets Jack, a charming man , who helps her out of the mud pit she falls into. She unexpectedly runs into Jack again when she accidentally stumbles into the wrong tent at the festival.

Bridget Jones becomes intimate with Jack, only to leave him the morning after and return to London. She sees her ex Mark at a christening and drunkenly finds herself in his arms once again. As the film unfolds, Jones finds herself in the middle of  a love triangle and  pregnant; with no idea who the father is, many awkward and interesting situations arise from Jones’ predicament.

The film was well written comically, aside from a few overused cliches, and ended the series on a high point. The movies emotional low points serve their purpose excellently and make the viewer care about the outcome of the story.

The soundtrack was essential to “Bridget Jones’s Baby” with each song serving perfectly complementing the rollercoaster emotions throughout the movie. Every song in the soundtrack fit the situation perfectly, and although these montages could seem over the top at times, they are important to the style that these movies have been filmed with.

The acting in this movie was impeccable, with great performances from all the returning and experienced actors such as Patrick Dempsey. Dempsey delivered believable who deliver the emotions and awkward situations so perfectly it made the viewer feel as though the film is real. The comedy is delivered very naturally, which is what makes it so humorous as it doesn’t feel like it’s forced into the scene.

The cinematography in “Bridget Jones’s Baby” is delightful and featured beautiful scenery in the film, camera pans also strong put together large scale scenes such as the Music Festival together seamlessly. The film is overall well edited and the large budget it was filmed with shows through with the high quality cinematography.

“Bridget Jones’s Baby” has many positive aspects, but originality isn’t one since it is the third movie in the series with a similar framework to the storyline of its predecessors. This movie also features cliche jokes and situations; for example the cinderella-esque scene where Jack puts Bridget’s high heel on was practically expected from this film.

The director’s purpose in making “ Bridget Jones’s Baby” is to give long term fans a final send off with a high quality and humorous goodbye. Although this film may not be the best in the series, it is one of the funniest, with scenes constantly leaving viewers bursting with laughter.
