Boys beach volleyball smashed the competition on Saturday, winning all 6 games they played, and sweeping Palos Verdes and Redondo. Co-captains junior Dane Johnson and senior Kevin Pinkerton helped carry the team to a share of the Bay League title.

The Mustangs managed to win all of their sets against a heavily depleted Palos Verdes team in their first match of the day. In their second match, the team defeated Redondo in three close games to clinch Co-Bay League champs with Santa Monica.

“We were able to stay calm and capitalize on the important opportunities,” Johnson said. “Hopefully we are able to continue our momentum in the playoffs and earn a ring.”

The Mustangs finished the regular season with a stellar 8-2 record. With a 7-1 Bay league record, they managed to clinch co-champs with Santa Monica. Next Saturday, the playoffs begin at Ocean Park in Santa Monica.
“We stayed poised and played our game, which helped us to get the win against two great teams,” Pinkerton said. “I think as long as we improve our ball control a little, we should be able to do really well in the playoffs.”
