Mira Costa boys beach volleyball breezed through the first round of playoffs on Monday, defeating Culver City 3-0 to continue their playoff run.

Throughout the game, the team was forced to battle through extremely windy conditions which made controlling the ball difficult. However, strong game play from senior Kevin Pinkerton and sophomore Thomas Kretschmer helped the Mustangs to the win.

“Kevin and I passed the ball well and executed our shots when we needed to,” Kretschmer said. “It was very windy so we were forced to keep the ball low, but we were able to persevere and get the win.”

The Mustangs win continued their recent success, they earned their ninth victory of the year and third straight to keep their championship hopes alive. They play next on October 8 against Arroyo Grande in the quarterfinals.

“We have a small core of players who are highly experienced,” coach Kyle Denitz said. “I think we can win every match that we face and I know that if we play our game we have the ability to go all the way.”
