Costa lost the first two games 25-16 and 25-15, but came back strong the third game and won 25-20. The Mustangs were unable to defeat Mater Dei in the fourth match, losing 25-22. Costa played with a lot of intensity according to Scott.

“Even though we lost the first two games, we really came fighting back in the third and fourth,” Montag said. “We stayed mentally tough especially when they would get on runs of points.”

Costa, now 5-1 in Bay League and 19-7 overall, will compete against Palos Verdes High School on Thursday at Palos Verdes. According to Montag, the team needs to trust themselves to play the best that they know how.
“Palos Verdes is a team we have seen before but we need to go in playing at our level,” Scott said. “Their crowd gets big so we have to make sure it doesn’t get in our heads.”
