Kevin Hart’s stand-up comedy was the only thing stopping viewers from leaving halfway through the film, but was not able to save the audience from thinking, “what now?”

“Kevin Hart: What Now?” is a failed fictional espionage comedy, that is partially saved by Hart’s hilarious stand-up comedy. The film has uninteresting acting, a dull plot, and is ruined by the film’s horrendous CGI.

The film is directed by Leslie Small and written by Hart himself. The film opens up with a failed James Bond-esque scene, trying to introduce both Kevin Hart and Halle Berry as secret agents on a mission in order to be able to pay for this tour. Besides for the confusing fact that the audience pays him for the tour, the Bond theme starts the film off in the wrong direction.

The film continues into a sold out football stadium in Hart’s hometown city of Philadelphia. It proceeds to turn into a stand-up comedy act on screen along with most of Hart’s films. After many corny jokes, the “show” comes to end and the film ends with Hart back in a Bond-esque mentality.

Hart plays the role of nothing more than a stand-up comedian who’s job is to create a humorous atmosphere and send laughs and smiles throughout the audience. With minor success, Hart still lacks acting skills, but maintains the comic portion of the film.

Hart’s co-star Halle Berry is known for her phenomenal talent, but failed to show off her abilities in this film. Berry almost never fails to impress, but due to the comical style of the film, she loses her unique style of acting. Although she is only in the film to complement hart, she tried to switch her acting to a comedic style, but she should maintain her usual roles that allow her true acting ability to flourish.

Additionally, the plot was dull due to the failed parody of a spy-esque theme. The idea to copy a film such as James Bond or Jason Bourne added nothing but confusion to the plot taking away from the few hilarious moments the film had. Due to a uneventful plot, the film lost most of its entertainment factor.

Furthermore, the dreadful CGI was poorly done and affected the enjoyment of each scene. The film had to generate a football stadium worth of people in order to create the same feeling that the actual performance had. The awful CGI made the film difficult to watch and distracted the viewer from Harts few cheesy jokes.

Overall, even the stupid jokes that Hart attempted to make did not save this film from its disaster. The poor acting, parody-esque plot, and choppy CGI could not come together to create a film worth watching.

“Kevin Hart: What Now?” is rated R and is showing nationwide.
