Voters all across the nation head to polls today to cast ballots in one of the most historic and critical elections in United States History. As the season of email controversies and sex scandals comes to an end, the people of the United States are left in a state of angst and apprehension, counting down the hours until the next president is announced.

5:00 – Although early in the Electoral process, Trump has solidified his lead in Key states such as Indiana, Kentucky, and West Virgina, landing him with a strong total of 24 Electoral Votes. Clinton wins Vermont at a 55.7% margin, supplying her with 3 Electoral Votes, and is currently leading in Ohio, North Carolina, and Florida – all key battleground states. If solidified, these leads could land Clinton with  a whopping 62 Electoral Votes.

5:45 – Trump falls behind Clinton, despite his important victories in Oklahoma, Alabama, and Tennessee, placing him at a total of 66 Electoral Votes. Clinton edges forward with a small margin with projected victories in Illinois, New Jersey, and Maryland, landing her a total of 68 Electoral Votes.

Despite Clinton’s Electoral lead, Trump pulls ahead with the Popular Vote as he’s collected around 51% of the vote as compared to Clinton’s 45%.

 

6:15 – Trump Pulls ahead of Clinton with projected victories in Key Swing states such as Florida (29 Votes),  Michigan (16 Votes), and North Carolina (15 Votes). Despite these apparent victories, Clinton trails behind trump with less than 1% deficit in all three swing states. Clinton also edges forward with projected victories in District of Columbia (3 Votes), and Pennsylvania (20 Votes).

6:30 – Trump’s strong line of support in the the South and Midwest in particular contributes heavily to his current electoral success. Trump’s victory “wall” starting at Texas and moving up through Kansas and North and South Dakota may foreshadow later victories in Georgia and Louisiana.

7:00  – Trump increases lead over Clinton as he compounds his projected victory in Texas (38 Votes) with smaller victories in Montana (3 Votes) and Wyoming (3 Votes). Clinton falls behind Trump in Florida (29 Votes) at 48% compared to Trump’s 49%. Trump still leads Clinton with over 30 Electoral Votes, 140 – 103.

8:00 – Trump continues his wining streak against Clinton, solidifying his victory in Florida (29 Votes). Trailing 66 votes behind Trump, Clinton is projected to win California (55 Votes), Washington (12 Votes) and Oregon (7 Votes).

12:00 – Trump pulls ahead of Clinton in states such as Wisconsin and Michigan, ultimately allowing him to clinch the 270 Votes needed for a victory. Clinton’s defeat came as a shock to many, however her lack of success with minority voter populations  was cited by CNN as a contributing factor. Despite victories with key demographic groups the Clinton campaign targeted, Clinton underperformed Obama as she  failed to acquire a larger share of the African American and Latino votes.
