South Bay Families Connected, an organization dedicated to informing parents about teenage substance abuse and how they can take preventative action, cancelled their book club that was supposed to take place on Monday in the College Career Center due to unforeseen circumstances.

The book club was based on the book “Forgive for Good: A Proven Prescription for Health and Happiness,” and author Dr. Fred Luskin was scheduled to speak to students, but could not attend because of a delayed flight and issues with traffic.

“The traffic was horrendous, there was nothing we could do about it,” SBFC Founder Laura Mcintire said. “He really wished he could’ve been there, but there were problems with his flight.”

As an alternative to Dr. Luskin’s talk, Mira Costa Families Connected co-founders Ellen Rosenberg and Sandi Gleason spoke about SBFC and the organization’s purpose. Attendees asked questions and Rosenberg mentioned the organization’s upcoming events, such as the screening of the movie “Growing Up In The Digital Age,” and the different benefits of the organization. Mcintire offered a $10 Pages bookstore gift card to all those who registered for the event and waited for Dr. Luskin.

“It’s my pleasure to support parents in effort to expand their knowledge base as well as support our local independent book store,” Mcintire said.
