The Mira Costa Dance team held the annual Lip Sync show in the auditorium Thursday night where various electives and teams performed to their songs of choice.

Various organizations, clubs and teams signed up for Lip Sync through the Dance team and performed a choreographed routine to a set of songs that they also lip synced to. A total of 16 groups participated this year including Model United Nations, Girls Softball and Marching band.

“I think everyone did a great job,” junior participant Liam Cook said. “We all put so much effort into this and it was amazing to watch everyone get closer with their organizations in the process. Even though we didn’t place, I’m so proud of Model United Nations.”

Costa Vice Principal John shaw, Yearbook advisor Valerie Park and Counselor Keshia Fields judged the competition. This year, Comedy Sportz won first place for their performance based on the Mii avatars from the video game Wii, Advanced Drama came in second and Associated Student Body’s fourth period won third place for their performance.

“Winning Lip Sync honestly came as a huge surprise considering how well everyone else did,” Comedy Sportz member Dalia Feliciano said. “I think the main factor in our success was just the time and effort we put into the organization of our performance. It definitely helps that people don’t really expect us to be super organized, so we had the advantage of a shock factor.”

In order to participate, teams had to sign up two weeks prior and have all members turn in a parental consent form. Other performances consisted of the Helpful Hearts club dancing to “Hollaback Girl” by Gwen Stefani, Drama II performed to a remix of Nicki Minaj songs and Drama I danced to “Jelly” by Destiny’s Child.

“In my opinion Lip Sync was a super successful fundraiser this year because we had a lot of fun, a lot of people came out, we unified the school, it raised school spirit and funds for dance team to attend nationals,” Dance team co-captain Shelby Friedman said. “I think it boosts spirit because it’s super exciting and everyone involved has a great time.”
