Mira Costa’s boys basketball team defeated to Gardena High School 63-50 in a home pre-season game on Wednesday during the Pacific Shores Tournament. The top player was senior guard Ryan White with 22 points.

Costa maintained an even game against Gardena for most of the game until the Mustangs pulled ahead in the second half. According to junior shooting guard Morgan Clark, the team had lots of energy on defense and their offense was a lot better.

“We started to communicate on defense and this led to a lot of stops on the defensive end,” senior point guard Brandon Chan. “We lived in the paint when we wanted to and we started to move the ball the second half.”

The Mustangs, now 2-0 overall, next play West Torrance High School in the Pacific Shores Tournament on Thursday at home. According to Chan, the West Torrance game will be an exciting, tough game and it will go well if the team defends well and communicates.

“I think if we play the way we have been playing we can get a win,” White said.
