After drawing its first game, Mira Costa’s boys soccer team earned its first win of the season with a 3-0 away victory against Culver City on Thursday. Goals came from senior forward Koa Work and senior midfielder Trevor Taub.

The Mustang’s defense was able to keep a clean sheet in the game, allowing the offense to capitalize on their opportunities and come away with the victory. According to junior defender Josh Rudow, the team’s chemistry and spirit was what held them together.

“Everyone on defense knows each other really well and that definitely helps,” Rudow said. “I was really proud of how we were able to keep a clean sheet and really show what we can do as a unit.”

The Mustangs, now 1-0-1, play El Segundo High School in their next matchup at home on Tuesday. According to Rudow, the team wants to keep on rolling after a pair of impressive results.

“I think we’ve gotten off to a great start this season,” Rudow said. “It is definitely going to be a fun matchup against El Segundo as it’s kind of a small rivalry and we know some of the players on the other team.”
