The Hermosa Beach City Council appointed a committee which has been working for the past few months alongside residents on future renovations for the Hermosa Beach Public Library and other city buildings.

The library committee has been seeking input from community members in order to find out what they want renovated in the library. The committee has been working with residents, staff, and a consultant on this topic. Hermosa is gathering input from community meetings and surveys.

“Our library is well loved and well utilized,” Hermosa Beach Councilmember Stacey Armato said. “However with the money from the County, we are given an opportunity to study if there are more opportunities with our library to service the needs of the community as a whole.”

The committee is working to address the needs of all community members, Armato said. They is working on including spaces dedicated to students, update the books, improve the library programs and create meeting rooms available for residents.

“I think that it is essential to renovate the library,” Mira Costa Sophomore and Hermosa Beach Resident Jade Siegel said. “It is important to take care of the places that people in the community spend most of their time at, or else no one will be motivated to visit or take advantage of the area provided for them.”

After the community gives its input on what it wants in a new library, it will choose an architecture company to design the library. After this is done, it will begin construction. According to Armato, the process could take many months to complete. Once the community approves of a design, and it is funded, construction could take a year or two.

“I think studying our library with our community and the potential a renovated library could bring to our community is important and timely,” Armato said. “Looking at updating the facilities as a whole makes sense, and it will benefit the community and staff.”
