Mira Costa’s baseball team defeated West High School 3-2 at a neutral tournament game on Thursday. The game remained scoreless until the Mustangs made two runs in the second inning.

Pitching performance from junior Jesse Storey in eight innings and sophomore Merrick Baldo for the remainder of the game allowed only 5 hits. The score was tied at the end of the seventh inning and went into extra innings. Joey Acosta made a run and won the game in the tenth inning.

“Our pitching really carried our team yesterday and we were able to get a few runs through to win it,” second baseman sophomore Dylan Dennis said. “For saturday we are really just looking to build a bigger lead so our pitchers don’t have to be pitching in a tight game every time they step out there.”

The Mustangs, now 5-1 overall, will play California High School at an away game on Saturday the 11th. The team had great defense throughout the game according to Storey.

“We played a tough team and got runs when we needed to and grinded out a win in a 10 inning game,” Storey said. “However we need to have better baserunning for Saturday’s game.”
