The Mira Costa boys and girls swimming teams both placed third overall in the South Bay Invitational on Friday at home. Top performers included junior Henry Anthony and sophomore Kai Bathurst, as well as junior Mona Stone and sophomore Alex Crisera.

Anthony competed in the 100 meter butterfly and 100 meter freestyle with times of 55.90 seconds and 51.52 seconds, respectively, placing first in the butterfly and second in the freestyle. He believed he performed well for his second meet of the season.

“I felt that I performed up to my standards and I’m obviously happy with the first and second place finishes,” Anthony said. “However, we have some things we can all improve on as a team.”

Stone competed in the 50 meter freestyle placing third with a time of 25.86. According to Stone, she did not perform her best but was still satisfied.

“I didn’t do my best, but I managed to place third which is solid,” Stone said. “It was a decent meet for the team, but we have better swimming in us and we hope to perform better at upcoming meets.”

Mira Costa, now 2-2 overall, will next face Peninsula on Thursday at 3 PM at home. According to Anthony, the Mustangs are looking forward to this upcoming match.

“Coming off this solid performance, we are looking forward to the upcoming match because we know we can do better,” Anthony said. “Peninsula is a solid team but if we perform well, we can definitely beat them.”
