Mira Costa’s girls lacrosse was defeated by Peninsula High School 8-9 on Wednesday in an away game. The team was lead by junior Jamie Averch, who helped Costa’s offensive push with two goals.

Other offensive contributors included senior Kelli Mark and sophomore Alysia Hall.  The girls played their best whole game and were able to hang until the final few minutes when the opponent pulled ahead, according to Averch.

“We were playing really well the whole game and we really wanted the win,”  Averch said.  “However they pulled ahead with a few last minute goals and we were not able to get back ahead.”

Costa, now 3-11 overall, will play against Redondo Union High School on Tuesday at home.  Averch said that the team is finding their confidence and hope that this will finally be the game they break their losing streak.

“We have been playing a lot better recently and playing in the game like we play in practice,” Averch said. “We are really hoping that our game against Redondo will be the game that we find our rhythm again.”
