Mira costa senior Ty Panitz has been acting for 12 years and has been casted in over 20 television shows, movies and commercials. He started acting at the age of five, being casted as Ethan in “Yours, Mine & Ours” from a walk in audition.

“When you are a young actor, the producers care more about how you look and if you behave, then how good an actor you are, and I looked right for the role,” Panitz said. “I got a call back and they told me that I had gotten the part and then the rest just fell into place afterwards.”

“Being able to play all these roles was a really fun experience,” Panitz said. “It is kind of weird, yet gratifying, looking back on it and seeing what I accomplished when I was younger.”

Even though acting was time consuming when Panitz was young, he believes it impacted him in a positive way and taught him valuable lessons about work ethic. Because of his hard work as a child in the business, Panitz is able to pay for his full tuition to college on his own, Panitz said.

“I am very thankful for my acting experience and what it has taught me,” Panitz said. “I’ve learned so much, not only about the industry, but about what it takes to succeed and being accountable for your role.”

Panitz has worked with a variety of successful actors including Dennis Clade, Mandy Moore, Diane Keaton, Drake Bell, Miranda Cosgrove, and Rene Russo. His favorite movie to film was “Yours, Mine & Ours” where he was the youngest of the 18 kids on set.

“My favorite part of acting is being able to work with all of these people that do it as their job,” Panitz said. “They are very good at what they do and it is cool to look at the final product in the end and say ‘hey that’s me.’”

As a young actor, Panitz had to work around school and fitting in time to get his work done. He ended up missing a lot of school and as he got older he found it hard to commute to Hollywood everyday to film along with doing his work.

“When I was younger it was easier, but as I got older I had to dedicate more time to studying my scripts because they were harder and I wasn’t being fed the lines anymore,” Panitz said. “I had to focus most of my time on acting and not school because it was stricter and not acceptable for me to mess up my lines and have the whole project suffer.”

Panitz’s success in the acting industry gave way for his family members to try acting as well. His younger brother, Parris Mosteller, starred in the movie “Judy Moody and the Not Bummer Summer” and the television show “Worst Week.”

In the future, Panitz plans to go to college and study law and then build his career as a sports agent or general manager in the NFL. He also wants to pursue acting as a side job.
