Mira Costa’s boys varsity tennis defeated Dos Pueblos High School 13-5 on Wednesday in their first California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) game. The top players were sophomore Matthew Poh and sophomore Kyle Sillman.

Costa did well in all their matches, with Poh and Sillman leading the team. Poh won all three of his sets with scores of 6-4, 6-0, and 6-1, and Sillman won all three of his as well. Sillman’s scores were 6-0, 6-2, and 6-2.

“We all played really smart today, which helped us win most of the matches,” Poh said.

The Mustangs, 16-2 overall and 8-1 in Bay League, will next play in the second CIF round on Friday against an undecided team. According to Poh, if the team continues to play smart, it will win the next match.

“Next game, we can stay more focused during our matches and not get too distracted by outside talk,” Poh said.
