Due to the lack of seniors with a parking pass this year, Mira Costa administration will give a majority of the parking passes to seniors for the 2017-18 school year.

According to Mira Costa Principal Dr. Ben Dale, instead of a first come first serve method that has been used in past years, all names will be put into a lottery in order to decipher who will receive a parking spot. Dale said that only 10 to 15 juniors will be able to receive a spot.

“I think seniors deserve this priority because it guarantees the people who have been here the longest get the spots they deserve,” junior Toby Kamish said. “It seems most reasonable that seniors should get passes.”

For those without a pass, there are other methods of parking such as the district lot and street parking along Peck, Meadows, or Herrin. However, according to sophomore Mallie Axelrad, it is easy to get a ticket because of 2-hour spaces, street sweeping, and other regulations.

“I understand the reasons why seniors should get parking passes before anyone else, but I do feel like juniors also deserve some spots,” Axelrad said. “There’s limited parking around campus but I find it helpful to arrive as early as I can to get a spot.”
