Core Values Assembly canceled due to lack of involvement

The Mira Costa administration canceled a Core Values Assembly on May 31 due to lack of student attention. They held a Core Values Assembly earlier in the year and they feel as if it needs to be more interesting for students, according to Vice Principal John Shaw.

A Core Values Assembly was scheduled to take place during lunch in the Mustang Mall on May 31, but was cancelled because the Associated Student Body and Parent Teacher Student Association decided that the assembly needed enhancing to attract more attention.

The first assembly was hosted on Nov. 9 2016. The Core Values Assembly is dedicated to giving awards to students for non-academic achievements and promoting values such as compassion, respect, leadership, and integrity.

“It was just an omission and it was supposed to be removed,” Vice Principal Jon Shaw said. “We wanted to revamp it and make it more exciting and visible on campus for next year.”

The intention of the assembly is to instill more spirit in the student body. Shaw hopes the developments in the program draw more attention to it and get more students involved.

“The message is a powerful one, and we need to do more to promote the school values,” Shaw said. “ The kids and the staff need to rally around the idea and get more recognition and support the costa community as a whole.
