The Mira Costa Choir Program held its annual Spring Concert in the auditorium on Thursday which featured various classical and modern numbers.

The Mira Costa Director of Choir Michael Hayden chose a variety of songs including “Alleluia” by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, “O Salutaris Hostia” by Cesar Franck and “A’ina That Good News” by William Dawson. The Men’s Choir, Concert Choir, Advanced Women’s Chorale, Vocal Ensemble and both a capella groups Muscle and Coterie performed.

“Our Spring Concert is a culmination for all our hard work over the year,” Hayden said. “At this time the students are at their most skilled, so we sang repertoire that shows of those accomplished skills.”

The Choir Program practiced their songs every office hours for weeks as well as at lunch periodically. They also had two rehearsals on Tuesday and Wednesday for two and a half hours each. According to Costa junior Phillip Wah, this performance was the ideal way to display the hard work that the Costa Choir program has been putting in all year long.

“The concert went beautifully as all of our hard work paid off,” Wah said. “The entire Costa Choir sang gracefully as it was the perfect way to finish off the great year we had.”

The concert began at 5:30 and was open to the community for free. There were over 100 attendees altogether. Each choir group sang their own short program. They all came together at the end to perform “Sing Me to Heaven” by Daniel E Gawthrop.

This concert was the seniors last performance this school year. It’s hard to see the seniors go because it might have been the last time they sing choir for the rest of their lives, according to Laver.

“I’m super excited but also sad to be leaving, it will be an emotional time but I’m ready for it,” Costa senior Parker Mattern said. “I’ve made a lot of close friends over the years and we’ve done great things.
