Mira Costa girls golf team lost against Torrance High School 218-219 in its first game of the season on Wednesday at Chester Washington Golf Course.

The Mustangs were led with low scores from seniors Deliah Gunn (41), Phoebe Gunn (42), junior Isabella Walker (45) and sophomore Shani Waite (46). Phoebe Gunn said that the game was a tough one for the team but they will try their best to make up for their loss at tomorrow’s game.

“This is our first time losing in a long time, so we are just going to use this experience to drive us forward as a team,” Gunn said.

Costa, now 0-1 overall, will rematch Torrance at Los Verdes Golf Course on Thursday. Gunn hopes that the team is not disappointed by the unexpected loss and will continue to move forward. Waite said she would work on her yardages to avoid overshooting the green and chipping at the next game.

“It was a tough loss especially by one stroke, but we’ll bring it tomorrow,” Waite said. “Our girls are strong and we will continue to get better!”
