Mira Costa’s girls tennis team went 3-0 on their first day of the Beckman Tournament at Beckman High School on Thursday. A leading performance from sophomores Olga Nagy and Audrey Vo gave the Mustangs a win on day two.

In their first match against San Clemente, Costa won 5-3 in a tight game with sophomore Kiki Daviduk winning 7-6 in the deciding match. Doubles winners included Nagy, Vo, Daviduk, and senior Elena Olsen. Varsity defeated Riverside Poly 8-0 and Beckman 6-2 to conclude the day.

“It was fun to bond with my teammates and get to play against good competition,” Nagy said. “The weather was too hot on the second day so we did not get to finish our match, but I am grateful for the experience.”

On Friday Costa advanced to the final four by overcoming its opponents and as well as the extreme weather said coach Joe Ciasulli. The team played against Palos Verdes and fell 1-7. Shortly after their match, the tournament was cancelled due to extreme heat conditions.

“Today was really good,” said senior doubles player Grace Kendall. “We played different teams that were all at different levels and we all played super well.”

Costa, now 1-0 overall, will play in a match against Los Alamitos High School in Los Alamitos this Wednesday. This week they are looking to bring the same intensity to their match said Nagy.

“We can definitely improve on the mental aspect of tennis,” Nagy said. “That means playing more points and matches during practices this week.”
