Mira Costa’s girls tennis team placed twelfth in the Golden State Tennis Classic at Stanford University on Thursday and Friday. The top players were doubles pair sophomores Olga Nagy and Audrey Vo.

Girls Tennis Team started with a bang, tying St. Francis 3-3 after losing by virtue of a sets-won tiebreaker. In the second match Costa tied with Valencia with Nagy and Vo winning both sets 6-0. In the consolation semifinals they fell to Monte Vista. Nagy and Vo went 6-3 and 6-2 in doubles.

“Costa played well in probably the most competitive high school tennis tournament in the country, but did not do as well as in prior years,” coach Joe Ciasulli said. “Unfortunately, Peninsula won the tournament by defeating Palos Verdes in the final.”

Mira Costa, now 2-1 overall, will compete against Marlborough at a home game this Tuesday. Placing twelfth this year came as a shock compared to coming in third last year, but that is just all the more motivation to work harder, said Nagy.

“Primarily I feel like we can adjust the fact that if you’re winning not to let the opponent slip a game in,” Nagy said. “Or even if you are losing trying to get in every game possible for the good of the team.”
