The Mira Costa girls volleyball was defeated by Santa Margarita High School, 3-0, at home on Tuesday. The top performer included senior defensive specialist Lea Unger for her numerous saves and completed passes which helped Costa remain a threat on both, offense and defense.

The Mustangs began the first set by losing 25-17. Costa was unable to bring their momentum up, losing in the next two sets, 25-21 and 25-23 and being swept, 3-0. Throughout the series, senior Kelli Barry also assisted on defense, by blocking and saving many shots.

“We had many great kills and digs but the hitters on the other team would hit the ball off our blocks,” sophomore outside hitter Katie Colvin said. “We played very well but with our potential, we could have done much better.”

The Mira Costa girls volleyball team is now 1-2 overall and will next play against Peninsula High School at home on Tuesday. The team will compete in Bay League beginning on Tuesday and will work to improve their blocking, Colvin said.

“We will win our next game if we take all of our coaching to heart and play with confidence,” sophomore pin hitter Talia Genova said.
