Mira Costa boys beach volleyball defeated both Palos Verdes 3-0 and Redondo 2-1 on September 16 at Dockweiler Beach. Costa’s top seeded teams were Bobby Barkley and Dane Johnson, Thomas Kretschmer and Sam Collins and also Lauch Farris and Jack Walmer.

Junior Thomas Kretschmer and sophomore Sam Collins led the Mustangs to multiple victories without losing any sets. They defeated Palos Verdes 21-11 and 21-17 and also beat Redondo 21-14 and 21-13. Both players displayed amazing plays with strong kills and incredible digs which lead to their wins.

“Our biggest strength was how consistent we were. We sided out almost every time, and played good defense,” junior Thomas Kretschmer said. “Anything we got up was a kill for us. You just can’t play against that.”

The Mustangs are now 11-4 and Costa’s next match is against Palisades and West Torrance next week on September 23 at Dockweiler Beach. Coach Avery is excited for their upcoming matches and the possibility of repeating their championship titles.

“We have the challenge of trying to repeat as Bay League and IBVL Champions with most of our Varsity athletes who won last year returning,” Coach Avery said. “While at the same time we have the challenge of growing the future of our program with the most talented underclassmen we have probably ever had, so the future is looking bright.”
