The Mustangs’ offense was nearly unstoppable in their game on Sept. 20 against West High School.

Mira Costa’s boys water polo team defeated the Warriors 18-1 in a Bay League contest, continuing its three-game winning streak.

The first quarter started with a goal from senior attacker Johnny Escobedo, two goals from junior attacker Holden Brown, and a pair from Carter, extending the Mustangs’ lead to 5-0.

In the second quarter, the Warriors scored their only goal off of a turnover. Senior attacker Alex Nahabed responded with three goals, and another player added a pair of goals to increase the Mustangs’ lead to 9-1. In the dying minutes of the first half, senior attacker Ethan Chalk scored two goals, both on penalty shots.

As the second half began, Escobedo scored again off a counter attack. As the third quarter came to an end, senior attacker Colin Le tallied two more goals, giving the Mustangs a 15-1 lead.

In the fourth quarter, the Mustangs added three more goals from senior attacker Ben Heagy. The Mustangs defense kept West scoreless in the second half, ending the game 18-1.

The Mustangs, 5-1 overall and 3-0 in Bay League, looked for their fifth consecutive win on Thursday in a Bay League home game against Redondo Union. However, results were unavailable at the time of publication.
