Boys Beach Volleyball defeats Redondo and Palisades to win Bay League

Mira Costa boys beach volleyball defeated both Palos Verdes 3-0 and Redondo 3-0 at Dockweiler Beach on September 30 achieving the title of Bay League Champions. Costa’s top seeded teams were Thomas Kretschmer and Dane Johnson, Max Cajuste and Jack Walmer, Sam Collins and Jack Hopkins.

Hopkins and Collins led the Mustangs to victory due to their consistent defense and strong kills. They defeated Palos Verdes 21-14, 21-8 and also beat Redondo in a tough match, 21-16, 21-19, 15-11.

“We had lots of strengths in the match like serving really tough,” sophomore Sam Collins said. “Jack and I played really well together and have great chemistry.”

The Mustangs are now 22-5 and Costa will be competing as the #1 seed in the first round of playoffs on Wednesday, October 4 at Dockweiler Beach. Coach Avery said that the team is very excited for playoffs and are ready for the competition.

“Even though we are the #1 seed going into playoffs, our competition will still be very intense,” Coach Avery said. “I’m so excited to have our full varsity team and see what our guys can accomplish.”
