The Mira Costa cross country team competed in the Mount Sac Invitational, the biggest high school cross country meet in the country on Saturday, October 21 at Mount San Antonio College. Costa’s varsity girls team got 12th and the boy’s varsity team got 8th in the 3 mile race.

Junior Olivia Hacohen lead the girl’s varsity team with a time of 18:37 and placed 37th out of 108 girls. Senior Xavier Court lead the boy’s varsity team with a time of 14:44 and got 4th out of 122 other competitors. They are very difficult race and pacing was key said Court.

“Downhill running was my Achilles heel of the race today. It was difficult keeping up with my competitors as it was an all out sprint every down hill,” Court said.  “As far as my strengths my pacing was solid as I was able to match my first and last mile.”

The team will run in their second Bay League meet on the Palos Verdes Course on Thursday, November 2nd against other Bay League teams. Costa is looking for another win and the team is very excited for what’s to come in their future meets.

“As a team, I think we are all really excited to see all the hard work paying off in Bay league, as it takes us on our way to the state meet which is the most important,” sophomore Carmen Mel said.
