Ho-ho-home invasions are tremendously popular in this Christmas themed 2017 movie “Better Watch Out.” With outstanding acting from the cast and a terrifyingly magnificent plot, “Better Watch Out” reels viewers in for more and leaves them on the edge of their seats.

With diverse characters, which lack an explained origin story and heart-pounding horror scenes, “Better Watch Out” is an exhilarating thriller-horror. The movie surprisingly keeps the audience’s attention throughout the entirety of the film. The storyline itself is flawless, with carefully considered action-packed scenes and brief emotional moments that remind us that the actors are still human.

Produced by Storm Vision Entertainment and Best Medicine Productions, “Better Watch Out” was released on October 6, 2017. The movie was filmed in Sydney, Australia and New South Wales, Australia. Directed and written by Chris Peckover, “Better Watch Out” has won 8 awards, including Best European / North-South American Feature award at the Fantasia Film Festival.

“Better Watch Out” is about Luke, a 12-year-old boy who is in love with his 17-year-old babysitter Ashley. As a robber invades their home one night and threatens the two kids with his presence, they try to avoid their deaths to make it safely throughout the night.

The musical score of the film is exceptionally clever, due to the Christmas music adding to the intensity of the scenes by having loud, dramatic sounds playing in the background. The music skillfully portrays irony in the film due to the fact that cheerful Christmas music is playing during the frightening horror scenes.

The actors do a remarkable job in “Better Watch Out” due to their passion, which shows in the movie. Olivia Dejonge, playing Ashley, and Levi Miller, playing Luke, make the film a must-see with their extraordinary abilities of fitting into their characters. Although some characters lack an explained origin story, making them underdeveloped, most characters are clearly illuminated.

The captivating plotline of “Better Watch Out” successfully stuns viewers with unexpected twists and turns. The plot of the movie is diverse and uniquely balanced, with brief charming emotional moments between nerve-racking action scenes, causing the audience to feel relaxed in some scenes yet jumpy in others.

The majority of “Better Watch Out” includes gruesome scenes of bloody clips, causing the movie to be rated R. With horrid scenes of undesirable violence, this movie is not suitable for people who can’t stand the sight of blood. Although the grim parts of the movie can be unbearable, they add a petrifying sense of reality into the film.

With the abstract filming techniques including long shots, or close-ups of characters,  the incredibly gruesome scenes are even more real, making the plotline amusing, and the astounding close-ups of objects adds a distinct sense of foreshadowing to the plot of the movie.

“Better Watch Out” is jaw-droppingly entertaining and extremely passionate. The plot amazes and pleases viewers with strong horror scenes and intense characters to back them up. With the many marvelous twists and turns of the film, it is most certainly a must see this October.

“Better Watch Out” is rated R and is playing in theaters worldwide.
