Mira Costa’s girls basketball team defeated Corona Del Mar by 40 points with a score of 65-25, on Wednesday, Dec. 13 at Segerstrom High School. The top performer included senior Kira Escovar, who played unselfish basketball and always found the open man, said sophomore Kim Waller.

The Mustangs offense started off very strong which lead to a 43-13 lead at halftime. The team took smart shots and passed to their open teammates and was relentless scoring 22 points in the third and fourth quarter.

“We were so successful because we came out strong and continued to play our hardest throughout the whole game,” Waller said.

The team is now 3-4 overall, and will play next at home on January 9th against Peninsula. The Mustangs are looking to improve many aspects of their game to become better, especially working on their communication according to sophomore Alyssa Toyooka.

“Some things that we need to work on for future games, to be more successful is better communication, less turnovers and more rebounds,” Toyooka said.
