Costa celebrates music and arts at Costachella 2025

Yesterday, students enjoyed performances by Bright Star, Hiatus, and Closeout at Link Crew's Costachella.

Link Crew decided to bring early summer vibes to campus with this year’s Costachella: Sounds of Summer, on Thursday, April 24 in the Mustang Mall. Inspired by the Coachella music festival, the event blended student performances and club-run booths in celebration for Costa’s creativity and community.

This year’s lineup featured student-run musical groups including Closeout, Hiatus, and the cast of Bright Star. A mix of other student-led bands and a special preview from Costa Drama’s upcoming spring musical entertained the crowd.
“We performed ‘If You Knew My Story,’ ‘Woah, Mama,’ and ‘Another Round’,’” said senior Jonah Mirkovich, starring as Jimmy Ray Dobbs in “It was awesome sharing songs from our musical Bright Star.”
In addition to the live music, club-run booths were spread throughout the Mustang Mall. These stations focused on bringing out the creative side of the students. The offered activities were watercolor painting, decorating travel bags, tattoos and more.

“For this year’s Costachella for every game and activity you participated in, you will earn tickets that can be used to buy lemonade and snacks,” Link Crew coordinator Ms. Hutchinson said. “You can also use the tickets to enter to win a prize.”

The “sounds of summer” style seemed to have caught on by the Link Crew leaders as many showed up in all sorts of beach outfits. From floral shirts and flip flops to sunglasses, there were major festival inspired vibes. Whether students were dancing in front of the stage or hanging out on the grass with friends, the mood was positive and inclusive.

“My favorite part of Costachella was all the different types of performances students got to listen to,” Sophomore Savine Nguyen said. “I also thought it was pretty cool how we got an early look at Costa’s spring musical, Bright Star.”

Link Crew spent weeks preparing for the event, coordinating everything with Link Crew Advisor, Ms. Hutchinson, and working with any groups who would be collaborating. Behind the scenes, student leaders worked hard to make sure the event ran smoothly and stayed true to its chill, summer inspired theme.

“The biggest challenge organizing this event was making sure all the parts came together at the right time,” Junior Amanda Dellenbach. “With so many performances, booths, and people involved, it was a lot of coordination.”

As finals season approaches with AP testing coming up in the next week, the event offered a much needed mental break. Many students appreciated having a chance to unwind, express themselves and support one another in a fun and relaxed environment. It reflected the school’s desire for a “balanced student life”.

“I believe it’s a fun way to enjoy office hours and get creative, while learning about programs on campus,” Hutchinson says. “Also, it’s a great event for link leaders to take the lead on something.”

Costachella stood out not just for its music and booths, but for the way it brought students together. From performers to volunteers to attendees, everyone played a role in making the event feel special. It reminded students that even during a stressful time of the year, they could still make space for fun.

“I believe what students can take away from this event is that even when school gets stressful, there’s still a lot of cool and interesting things going on around them,” Hutchinson says. “If you take a minute to step back and enjoy what others are contributing it becomes really fun and inspiring.”
