Costa Choir and their director Kate Crellin traveled to Cambridge, Oxford, Bath, London, and Dublin on Apr. 11 for their yearly ten-day-long choir tour. This year, after an eleven-hour flight, 50 students landed in Cambridge, United Kingdom, then rested up for the next week and a half of performances and educational field trips.
The Choir performed a one-hour set seven times in several venues across the region. A notable performance was on day two of the trip at Wells Cathedral, where they got to perform inside the church.
“There were so many beautiful churches, it’s just the kind of thing you don’t see in America,” said sophomore Talia Landau.
Students weren’t only there to sing, but to also fully immerse themselves in European culture. Crellin made sure to take her students to a variety of monuments and authentic restaurants, including Buckingham Palace and the Tower of London. They also tried the British cuisine—beans on toast and duck meat.
“I didn’t exactly love all the food we tried, but it was an interesting experience,” said senior choir member Jaxon Stroyke.
The choir also took a walking tour in London, on which they were able to witness everyday British life. Choir also enjoyed tea almost every day at British cafes. According to Stroyke, most members of the choir had never been to any of these places before and felt incredibly lucky to get to experience the city in such a unique way.
These trips provide a chance for individuals to bond outside of rehearsals, fostering teamwork and camaraderie.
“I was lucky enough to room with one of my best friends, but we got closer than ever in the past 10 days. I also got to know so many choir kids that aren’t in my specific class,” said Landau.
