Mira Costa High School hosted its annual Vegas Night at the Athletic Complex on September 13 from 6:30 to 10 p.m., bringing costumed students—including a group of Minions—together for roulette, poker, blackjack and a silent disco.
“It’s an annual event that Ms. Claypoole and ASB organize, and we start planning a couple months in advance,” said Principal Dr. Jennifer Huynh. “Each grade has a dress-up theme, and students and administrators trade trivia questions to earn money to play—it’s a fun way for everyone to get connected.”
ASB partners with the same vendor each year to keep the setup consistent, while themes and activities change to make the night fresh. Attendees try their luck playing games at classic tables with play money before heading to the silent disco. The tradition, coordinated by ASB and Ms. Claypoole, aims to build school spirit and bring grade levels together.
Mira Costa High School Juniors Jule Young and Gavin Coliner react to a big win—and loss— at the blackjack table. Most tables featured blackjack, with two set aside for poker and two for roulette.
