Which Streets to Visit?
Wondering where to trick or treat? There’s only one right answer: the walk
Streets. It’s the most convenient location with decorations, including street lights and spooky characters. Of course there is an even more important factor than vibes: the walk streets supply the best candy, including king-size bars and a variety of sour and sweet treats.
La Vista’s suggestion: Start at the Hermosa Beach pier, then walk up and down all the walk streets until you hit Manhattan Beach, then walk back and re-hit all the best houses after they forget what you look like.
However, if you are looking for something new or less crowded, try your luck in the Tree Section. The Tree Section is underrated but worthwhile.
Costumes! Repeat or Recycle?
From Top Gun pilots, to Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders or DC Superheroes, high
school Halloween costumes are louder and more grandiose than ever thanks to lots of
details and accessories.
Characters like Astrid and Hiccup, Annican and Padman, or Remy and Linguini are rising stars in the couple’s costume scene. Other popular costumes include “rhyme without reason” duo characters like Kim K. and NBA, Princess and Wild West, or
Reader and Cheerleader.
However, behind the capes and glamor, a quieter movement is gaining costume traction: sustainability. As fast fashion producers like SHEIN and Amazon flood the markets, students are pushing back, choosing thrifted pieces, DIY designs, and costume swaps that reduce waste without sacrificing uniqueness.
Scary Parks! Knott’s or Universal?
How do you decide between Universal Studios Halloween Horror Nights and
Knott’s Scary Farm? Both are close by and convenient for Costa students to visit, and one’s not necessarily better than the other. And while they are both super fun, it definitely depends on what environment you enjoy the most.
If you’re going more for the roller coasters and halloween aesthetic, then definitely
go to Knotts’. There will be a variety of spooky mazes and scary rides.
But if you’re a thrill seeker and an avid horror fan, pick Halloween Horror Nights.
This year, Universal Studios has upped their game with the fear and production value. No matter which park you choose, be prepared to stand in line for half your night, with line times reaching up to three hours some nights.

Best Fall Movies! Scream or Skip?
Scary movies are all the rage to capture the Halloween spirit. Everyone loves a night at home with a sweet treat and a fall movie, but the same question is always asked: Which movie?
Instead of spending an hour on Netflix scrolling to find the perfect film, here are some options ranging from classic to horror. Some of the most traditional Halloween movies include: “Hocus Pocus,” “The Nightmare Before Christmas,” “Beetlejuice,” and “Ghost Busters.”
For those that prefer horror movies there are multiple coming out this fall, including “The Black Phone 2,” “VHS Halloween,” “Companion,” “Weapons,” “Good Boy,” and “Sinners.” If you’re looking for more classic horror movies, top choices include: “Get Out,” “Psycho,” “It,” “Scream,” and “The Conjuring.”
Best Candy! What’s in your Basket?
According to a poll conducted by La Vista, Costa students favor Twix. Known for its perfect blend of caramel, cookie, and chocolate, Twix ranked superior in the showdown for the South Bay’s favorite Halloween treat.
In a tie for second are Kit Kats, loved for their wafer filling, and Sour Patch Kids, with their sweet and sour mix.
Our poll results highlight a clear divide between chocolate lovers and gummy candy enthusiasts. Whether you are team Twix or not, one thing is clear: With Halloween around the corner, these top picks will be flying off of the shelves and into trick-or-treating bags.
Other candies that are not as popular, but still enjoyed by Costa Students include Skittles, Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, M&M’s, and Snickers.
