Season 2 of “Nobody Wants This” continues to explore relationships in all their messy, awkward ways. Noah (Adam Brody) and Joanne (Kristen Bell) are finally dating, living together part-time, and navigating the same tension that drove Season 1: Joanne isn’t sure about converting to Judaism for Noah.
The most glaring absences in this season is Esther and Sasha’s daughter, Miriam, who remains completely invisible. We see Miriam appear once in the whole season at the Halloween Party. Her absence feels almost symbolic. While the adults spiral through their insecurities and emotional messes, the child is sidelined. It’s a reminder that the show is more invested in adult dysfunction than in the next generation.
Sasha and Esther’s relationship shows signs of a slow collapse, as they end the season in a divorce. This leaves viewers wondering what the next season might hold for them. In contrast, the growing bond between Sasha and Morgan provides some of the season’s brightest, most engaging moments. Their late-night car debriefs and inside jokes offer a nice break from the rest of the show’s drama.
This season also features a fun cameo: Noah’s real-life wife, Leighton Meester, shows up as Joanne’s arch-nemesis, Abby A.K.A. AbbyLovesSmoothies. Her character adds both humor and drama, especially during the battle between Morgan, Joanne, and Abby over their past childhood at Abby’s baby naming ceremony. This scene sparked a lot of online buzz, with viewers debating why Joanne came to Noah’s work event in the first place.
Now, let’s talk about Dr. Andy: his storyline feels random and unexpected, appearing as a love interest for Morgan to get back at Joanne. Morgan and Dr. Andy’s relationship is unprofessional and uncomfortable. Seeing a therapist romantically involved with his patient crosses a line that the show doesn’t address. His personality isn’t much easier to tolerate. Dr. Andy tries to be the funny “therapist of the group,” but his games and jokes backfire, creating chaos among the three main couples.
Looking ahead to Season 3, there are plenty of possibilities. Will Joanne finally give in and convert to Judaism? Will there be a potential wedding between Joanne and Noah? Could Esther and Morgan develop a genuine friendship, supporting each other as single women navigating messy relationships?
In the end, Season 2 of “Nobody Wants This” has received mixed opinions. It’s not a disaster, but it’s not as fun or fresh as the first season. There are still sweet moments, drama, and plenty of laughs; but the repeated conflicts, especially with Joanne converting, and awkward character moments make it boring. The spark that made it exciting in Season 1 is definitely dimmer. Hopefully, Season 3 will bring the energy back.
