Schedules rewritten

Second-semester class schedule changes have rearranged students around campus, putting them in a difficult situation to continue their daily routines. Oftentimes, students find themselves forced into year-long classes with different teachers too. All of this may seem like compromising a student’s education to scheduling issues that were blatantly foreseeable at the beginning of the school year, but schedule changes are merely a nuisance, not the end of the world.

Sure, schedules and routines are an integral part of a student’s learning, but schedule changes will not impede on academic performance in the long run. A short transition period at the beginning of the year is outweighed by the long-term benefits of being in the proper classes.

It is possible that these disruptions to education mess with preserving academic learning from the first semester, but students need to learn how to adapt to new environments and build flexibility. Not to mention, these scheduling nuisances mirror the reality of college’s competitive registration and help Costa students prepare for the possibility of taking classes they had not originally planned to take.

In a new class, students should take the opportunity to step out of their comfort zone instead of sulking about a schedule change. By the time February rolls around, students will have gotten used to their new schedules, and the complaining to school counselors will have been in vain.
