Myers Kicks it on the National Stage

Freshman Michelle Myers was recently selected to the U.S.A U15 Women’s National Team. The selection process begins with regional identification camps, where athletes are evaluated by national scouts before receiving invitations to higher-level training camps.
“When I found out I was called up, I was really excited,” Myers said. “It showed that all the hard work was paying off.”
The national developmental program run by U.S.A Soccer identifies top players from across the country. Participation with the U15 team requires travel, multi-day training camps, and adjustment to faster, more physical play. Players train in different systems, compete against top national talent, and are evaluated consistently by national staff.
“The environment is very competitive, and everyone there deserves to be there,” Myers said. “You have to prove yourself every day.”
Before each game, Myers prepares by studying film, anticipating space, and adjusting her pace for high-level competition. She explained how soccer extends beyond the 90 minutes on the field, it influences her daily routine and long-term goals. The experience exposes athletes to the expectations and structure of higher levels of competition. They are fostering time management and balance for school and other commitments.
“Soccer has become a big part of who I am and how I plan my future,” Myers said.
Soccer was not always Myers primary focus. Growing up, she competed in multiple sports, before committing fully to soccer. She joined BeachFC after a coach encouraged her, so decided it was the right choice.
“When I was younger, volleyball was my main sport and soccer was just a hobby,” Myers said. “Once I quit volleyball and had a coach who believed in me, everything changed.”
At Costa, Myers earned a spot on the varsity team her freshman year. Coaches noted her speed and work rate during tryouts, and said she focused on demonstrating versatility and consistency rather than her age.
“I was ready to work hard and help the team,” Myers said.
