New beginnings are creatively entering Allcove Beach Cities as Indivisible Arts hosts a three week workshop series throughout January, inviting local teens to define their visions of renewal through fashion, collages, and painting. The series of events run weekly at Allcove, encouraging fresh starts and a sense of community.
Allcove Beach Cities, a youth mental health center, is turning into a hub for art with the help of Indivisible Arts, providing new forms of support through the hand of creativity. The two organizations, each centered on providing access to mental health support for the youth of South Bay continue to grow in collaboration, with three consecutive events this month focused on relief and new beginnings to help kickstart the year in success.
Following the success of the Covefest Art show, a collaboration between Mira Costa High School’s profoundly talented artists, Indivisible Arts, and Allcove Beach Cities, each organization has grown further intertwined, focusing on working together to support the South Bay mentally. Each event falls a week apart, beginning on January 15th, ending on the 29th. The events carry an energy that supports the necessary retirement of old behaviors and items, while cultivating a space for new beginnings.
The inaugural event is kicking off with a clothing upcycle with Daryn Hammer, taking the catchphrase “New year… new you?” literally. The clothing upcycle is serving as a reset to attendees, allowing them to get rid of their old pieces while gaining new favorite thrifted additions to their closets.
The penultimate activity in the series is granting support to youth through helping them set their intentions and inspiring goals for the year ahead. Along with the help of Amira Belhedi, Indivisible Art’s event coordinator, the event intends to manifest intentions by utilizing magazines, collage images, colors and words that reflect personal dreams and goals for this upcoming year. The event hopes to create a mixture between art and a reminder of the intentions being set for the year.
The trilogy of events ends with their “Painting in the Cove,” led by professional artist and Mira Costa High School Alumni, Fiona Dowdee, on January 29th. The paintings are intended to symbolize a physical expression of each individual’s personal take on what new beginnings mean to them. Its focus remains on releasing the old, and creating a physical symbol of what you want to attract into your life within the upcoming year.
All of the workshops provide any needed supplies and prioritize accessibility, making art and support available to all youth. The organizers of the series hope to foster connection, reflection, and growth through shared creative experiences in a safe space.
